The Japanese izakaya dinner recipes continue with a savory addition. While this week's recipe is probably not one of the healthiest, it definitely is one of the most delicious and satisfying. Buta no kakuni or “square simmered pork” is a perfect dish to accompany a bowl of hot rice or just by itself when you're having rounds of sake or drinks. If you are a fan of rich food, this recipe is sure to provide both, the delicately cooked pork belly texture with the umami-packed broth.

Clams. You either love the plumpy meat or you hate it. If you love clams just like us, then behold, this recipe will forever get you hooked. What's even better is that it will take you 15 minutes from prepping to the finished dish!
The reign of Asian gourmet has arrived in the Chicago downtown neighborhood! For those who live in the downtown area and often shop for Asian food ingredients, H-Mart Supermarket opening in the West Loop area is as good as downtown living can get. H-Mart is not your everyday grocer, nor is it your mom and pop Asian grocer found in Chinatown or Argyle. It is a quality Korean supermarket chain that I am too well familiar of, coming from Texas where a large Asian population created demand for the grocer's expansion. Although not as large as the branches in Texas, the West Loop location boasts 1 bakery, 3 food court eateries, and a wide range of Asian ingredients to shop from, specifically Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. Read on to get the scoop on this hot-off-the-press supermarket before you make a visit. Contact Info 711 W Jackson Blvd Chicago, IL 60661 (312) 966-4666 Hours: Daily 9AM -9PM http://www.hmartus.com/ Its is almost Friday again! Generally that would mean a lot of drink followed by a bad bad hangover. Today I want to share one of favorite cure for hangover (at least guaranteed to be very yummy), Salmon Ochazuke! Ochazuke is a common dish served at the Japanese style bar or Izakaya. There is no general rule on how make Ochazuke, it really depend on what you like to eat and for me that mean salmon and roasted rice tea (Genmai-cha). Youkoso to Jenny's first recipe post! I've finally gotten around to carry out this project with Gus (my companion in life) and I'm super excited to be sharing my love for food to everyone. Don't forget to check out our Recipes and Restaurant review sections! There will be more development on our food ventures in the near future so please stay tune and spread the word! So, without further ado, please allow the content of this blog to sweep you away into a blissful food paradise! |
