If you haven't heard, Brown Sugar flavored milk tea is all the rave. The dark molasses flavor captivated the bubble tea enthusiasts and you will find every bubble tea house featuring this sweet tooth drink. Well, we've also been really crazy over Oatly because of its rich mouthfeel and delicious flavor but reduced the calories when compared against whole milk. And so, we thought why not create our favorite milk tea with oat-milk? Plus, making it at home means you can control the sugar level and we definitely like our drinks to be mildly sweetened. So skip the commute to Chinatown or wherever the tea house maybe and try your hands on this easy to follow 10 minutes simple recipe.

Note: We have not include the tapioca bubbles, but you may add them at your leisure. Also, we're trying to make this easy to prep so we suggest using the microwave to speed up the process.

Brown Sugar Oat-Milk Tea Recipe

Picture
 Total Time : 10 Minutes
 Course: Beverage
 Serving: 1 (220 calories)

Ingredients

1 tbsp black tea (preferred: China Golden Yunnan from TeaGschwendner)
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp water for brown sugar syrup making
1/2 cup hot water for steeping the tea
1 cup of oat-milk (preferred: Oatly)
1 glass of ice or as needed

How to make it?

1. Combine the 2:1 parts of brown sugar and water. Give it a quick stir and microwave for 20 seconds. (If you prefer the regular level of sweetness as found in bubble tea shop, double up the proportions of the sugar and water.)

2. Cool the brown sugar syrup concoction with an ice bath or you can pop it in the fridge for at least 5 minutes.

3. Take the 1/2 cup of water and microwave for 1 minute. Steep the loose leaf tea in the hot water and give it a stir to release the flavor. Steep for 2 minutes or as directed by the tea packaging. Filter the tea to produce a dark amber brew. Refrigerate briefly.

4. Take the cooled brown sugar syrup and pour into your serving glass. Slowly swirl the syrup around the glass and create cascading patterns.

5. Fill up the glass with ice then pour the oat-milk. Finally, finish by pouring the brewed tea.
